MEXICO CITY (AP) -Mexico booked its berth in the final round of regional qualifying for the 2014 World Cup by beating Costa Rica 1-0 on Tuesday, with Javier Hernandez scoring the winner in the 61st minute.
Manchester United forward Hernandez scored on a centering pass from Jorge Torres Nilo, and beat Costa Rica keeper Keylor Navas.
Mexico is the first team in the CONCACAF region to be guaranteed a spot in the final six-nation group which will play off for three spots at Brazil 2014.
Mexico qualified from Group B. Two teams will advance from each of the three groups - A, B and C.
