The Ford Escape?s comeback is nothing short of terrific as it has been determined to have sold more than 2000 units higher than the Honda CR-V (the undisputed 2012 compact crossover king) in January. The CR-V, which sold 17,809 units, is also threatened by the Chevrolet Equinox (with 17,223 units sold), just 600 units behind Honda. The Toyota RAV4 is at fourth place with 11,610 units sold. Fifth place went to the Nissan Rogue (with 8951 units sold). Trailing it at sixth place is GMC Terrain (with 8550 units). If GM?s Equinox and Terrain sales are combined, they would have a higher figure than the leaders in the class. Seventh place goes to the Subaru Forester with 6565 units sold but it?s likely to experience a sales surge as soon as the new Forester arrives in dealerships. The smallest gap between crossovers is the one between the Jeep Patriot and Mazda CX-5. The Jeep Patriot takes eight place with a lead of just four units. Mazda?s CUV took ninth place with 5344 units. Still, it?s believed that the competition between them will intensify when the refreshed 2014 Patriot starts selling later this year. At No. 10 is the Hyundai Tucson, with 3493 units sold. The Jeep Compass (with 3116 units sold) didn?t perform as well as its cousin. This was trailed by Kia Sportage and Volkswagen Tiguan.
